Couple Difficulties

Our partners can be, and should be one of our greatest sources of strength and comfort. Couple difficulties may stem from individual issues of the past, stresses experienced during the relationship, or an inability to communicate in ways that support each other's growth.  Addressing both the past and the present in practical ways, couples therapy offers the possibility of a different future - recapturing the safety and connections that originally drew you together.

Sexual Difficulties 

Sexual difficulties may stem from personal dynamics, relationship issues and/or physical problems. These topics are often difficult to openly discuss. We create a safe and accepting environment in which individuals or couples can explore these issues and find ways to increase intimacy and pleasure in their relationships.

Affairs

Infidelity is among the most painful and challenging of couples issues. Each partner grapples with acute and competing emotions including shame, fear, grief, anxiety, and anger. Often the future of the relationship is in question. Our clinicians help couples navigate the many layers of infidelity recovery work from processing painful emotions, to understanding the genesis of the affair, to the decision to move forward together or part peacefully.   

Separation, Divorce and Remarriage Transitions

Separation and divorce can be painful for adults and children. People remarry with high expectations; but new roles, expanded boundaries and complex step relationships can create unanticipated stress. We identify important developmental tasks and strategies to help family members heal, rebuild their lives, and grow through these experiences.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning Clients

We are an open and affirming practice. Our therapists have experience working with LGBT clients, same sex couples, and families headed by same sex parents. We are familiar with the challenges faced by members and allies of the LGBT community.
